Matching new door hinges to old door Jambs

Today we were Installing a new door in an old door jamb . . this is much more complicated than installing new doors with new door jams.
Here are some tips to make this job go easier:
- Don’t remove the original door stop until after you swing the door so it doesn’t fall through the opening, and you will be on the right side of the door to mark the hinge
- Put a wedge on the top of the door (about 1/8th quick) and pry the door up from the bottom so you ensure you have a margin at the top of your door. Mark the hinge points to make sure you install the door to swing in the right direction
- Make sure the bevels of the door are going in the right direction (the widest part of the door with no bevel should be facing you)
- Find hinges close to the previous size to minimize filling around the Jamb
- 90% of the time you will have to replace the door stop after years of painting or the door won’t close properly
